ประวัติวันแม่แห่งชาติ
แต่เดิมนั้น วันแม่ของชาติได้กำหนดเอาไว้วันที่ 15 เมษายนของทุก ๆ ปี ทั้งนี้เป็นไปตามมติของคณะรัฐมนตรีประกาศรับรอง เมื่อวันที่ 23 กุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ. 2493 ซึ่งได้พิจารณาเห็นว่าการจัดงานวันแม่ของสำนักวัฒนธรรมฝ่ายหญิง สภาวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติผู้รับมอบหมายให้จัดงาน วันแม่ มาตั้งแต่วันที่ 15 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2493 เป็นครั้งแรกเป็นต้นมานั้นได้รับความสำเร็จด้วยดี ด้วยประชาชนให้การสนับสนุน จนสามารถขยายขอบข่ายของงานให้กว้างขวางออกไป ต่อมาถึง พ.ศ. 2519 ทางราชการได้เปลี่ยนใหม่ให้ถือเอาวันเสด็จพระราชสมภพของสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ คือ วันที่ 12 สิงหาคม วันแม่แห่งชาติ เริ่มในปี พ.ศ. 2519 เป็นต้นมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
